THIBODAUX, La. - Katie Ann Trahan pitched her fifth complete game shutout of the season and her second in as many appearances against Nicholls State leading the Bobcats to the 3-0 victory. Texas State dropped the second game 5-1 against the Colonels.
With the split, Texas State moves to 22-23 overall on the season and 15-7 in the SLC. Trahan did pick up the loss for the nightcap, as she lasted four innings and gave up four runs on four hits with eight strikeouts. Saturday's action moves Trahan's overall record to 19-16, and lowered her ERA to 2.05.
In the opener, Kristin Gunter put the first run on the board for the Bobcats on a RBI single in the second inning that scored catcher Rachael Bonetti.
In the third frame, Bonetti made it 2-0 with a single to right field to drive in Ashley Wilson. Wilson had doubled up the middle to place her in scoring position.
Wilson was responsible for Texas State's third and final run by hitting a RBI sacrifice fly to centerfield allowing Amy Krueger to score from third.
Jessica Barksdale (5-10) recorded the loss after pitching a complete game in which she allowed three runs on seven hits with four strikeouts.
Nicholls State scored first in the second game on an Andrea Ground bunt single. A throwing error allowed two runners to score.
The Lady Colonels added two more runs in the fourth frame on a Nichole Wagner two-run homer over the left field fence.
Texas State's lone run came in the fifth inning when Holly Britain hit a RBI single driving in Wilson.
Wagner (8-13) received the win after working a complete game in which she allowed only one run on three hits with no walks.
Texas State and Nicholls State will conclude the Southland Conference series Sunday at noon on Lady Colonel Field.
