SAN MARCOS - For Texas State seniors Melanie Hall and Tina Klemenc, you couldn't ask for much more drama to close out your collegiate career.

The Bobcats' 4-3 Southland Conference victory over Lamar Sunday came down to three-set singles matches involving the tandem.

At No. 2 singles, Hall came back from an opening set loss to defeat Lamar's Tara Shelander 1-6, 6-3, 6-3 to tie the match at 3-3 with Klemenc still playing at No. 5 singles. After splitting the first two sets with Lamar's Marion Brument, Klemenc had a 5-1 lead in the third set before Brument came back to win the next three games. But Klemenc thwarted Brument's comeback attempt and went on to win the match 7-5, 4-6, 6-4.

"Melanie and Tina lost a tough doubles match," said Texas State coach Tory Plunkett. "But they came back and fought extremely hard in their singles matches, our whole team did. But they both deserved to end their collegiate careers with a win."

Hall and Klemenc lost an 8-4 decision at No. 1 doubles to Andrea Martinez and Shelander. Lamar would take two of three doubles matches to earn the first point.

The Bobcats also got a 6-0, 6-0 win from Jana Cucciniello over Kendall Gibbs at No. 4 singles while Sumarie Muller defeated Marine LeRoy 7-6 (7-1), 6-1 at No. 6 to help set up Hall and Klemenc's finish.

Texas State ended its season with a 7-12 record and finished SLC play at 4-6. Lamar, which won on the road at Texas-San Antonio Saturday, is 13-9 and 6-4.
