Texas A&M used a five-run sixth inning and a four-run eighth on the way to a 12-2 victory and a perfect 3-0 record in the Maxwell Auto Group Round Rock College Classic at The Dell Diamond.
Texas A&M's 12 runs came courtesy of 13 Aggie base hits and four Texas State errors. Four Aggies had multiple hits in the game.
Leading the charge for Texas A&M was Keith Stein, who went three-for-five with four runs batted in and a run scored. Todd Sebek also drove home four and scored one, going one-for-two with two walks.
The dagger came for the Bobcats in the sixth, when Texas State pitchers walked home three of the Aggies' five runs in the inning. In all, Texas State used five pitchers in the game. Bobby Sawicki pitched five innings, giving up four runs and walking one. The loss dropped Sawicki's record to 0-2 on the season.
The Texas A&M win was credited to Aggie starter Chance Corgan, who went five innings and surrendered just one Bobcat hit. Jordan Chambless came on in the sixth, giving up two hits to Texas State and holding the Bobcats scoreless in his three innings pitched.
The `Cats would get on the board in the eighth, when Kyle Anson and Cody Ross reached base, followed by a Jose Rodriguez single which loaded the bases for freshman outfielder Elliot Babcock. Babcock drove the Kevin Whelan offering into right center field, plating Anson from third and Ross from second.
Anson finished two-for-three at the plate with one run scored. Nolan Mast, Jared Bunn and Babcock rounded out Texas State's hitting, with Babcock driving home the only two Bobcat runs of the afternoon.
Texas State's record fell to 11-5 and 1-1 in the classic at Dell Diamond, while Texas A&M improved to 12-4 on the year and 3-0 in Round Rock.
Texas State will finish play in Round Rock Monday, when the Bobcats meet Notre Dame at 3:30 p.m., at The Dell Diamond. The game will be broadcast on 89.9 FM, KTSW, and will also be available through College Sports Pass at www.txstatebobcats.com.
