SAN MARCOS -
Texas State's Leja Sirola and Melanie Hall each won in three sets to start Sunday's match as Texas State defeated Northwestern State 4-1 in a match played indoors at the Texas State Tennis Complex.
With the win, Texas State improved to 4-6 and 1-1 in Southland Conference play after a 4-3 loss to Louisiana-Monroe on Saturday. Northwestern State is now 2-6 and 0-2 in league play.
Sirola defeated Anneline Zerwick 7-5, 1-6, 6-4 at No. 1 singles while Hall posted a 2-6, 6-2, 7-5 win over Catalina Villegs at No. 2 singles to pace the Bobcats.
"Leja played well enough to win and Melanie came out firing pistols after the first set loss," said Texas State coach Tory Plunkett. "After the first two led off with close, three set wins, it just trickled down to everyone else.
The match was played on Texas State's two-court indoor facility because of weather conditions and took close to six hours to play. The Bobcats are now 2-0 this spring when indoors.
Texas State continues Southland Conference play this weekend traveling to Nicholls State on Saturday and Southeastern Louisiana on Sunday. Northwestern State travels to Lamar on Saturday.
