SAN MARCOS, Texas - Texas State softball's (16-19, 10-4) three home runs was not enough to defeat Texas A&M Wednesday night. The Bobcats lost 10-5 to the No. 6-ranked Aggies at Bobcat Field.
Katie Ann Trahan recorded the loss for the Bobcats, pitching three innings and allowing three runs on two hits while striking out seven. Trahan's record moves to 14-14 on the season.
Megan Gibson notched the win for the Aggies with 3.2 innings of relief work where she allowed no runs on two hits. She also helped Texas A&M on the other side of the plate, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4 and two RBIs.
Gibson put the Aggies up 2-0 in the first inning with her 13th home run of the season, scoring Sharonda McDonald.
The Bobcats rallied back to take the 3-2 lead in the bottom of the first inning on a pair of home runs. Trahan hit a solo home run down the left field line to get the `Cats on the board. Second baseman Ashley Wilson reached when she was hit by a pithch. Rachael Bonetti hit her fourth home run of the season scoring Wilson for the lead.
A&M tied the game in the second when McDonald knocked in Adrian Gregory with a single through the left side of the infield.
Jamie Hinshaw broke the 3-3 tie with a two-run double in the fourth, scoring Joy Davis and McDonald. A Bobcat error allowed Hinshaw to score and put Gibson on first setting the table for Amanda Scarborough's seventh home run of the season that put the Aggies up 8-3.
Texas State first baseman Kristin Gunter hit her third home run of the season over the right field fence, scoring Holly Britain to make it 8-5 heading into the fifth.
Scarborough scored the Aggies' ninth run of the game in the sixth on a fielding error by the Bobcats, giving the Aggies a 9-3 advantage. The Aggies added one run in the top of the seventh.
The Bobcats will return to Southland Conference action as they travel to play a three-game series with conference leader Northwestern State. The series will open on Saturday with a double-header. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at Demon Diamond. A single game on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. will conclude the series.
