Final Stats

SAN MARCOS - Texas State pounded out 18 hits and scored in double digits for the fifth straight game, but Texas-San Antonio took game one of the I-35 Southland Conference series 11-10 Friday night at Bobcat Field.

The Bobcats got on the board early, scoring a pair of runs in both the first and second innings, but UT-San Antonio took advantage of a Sean Danielson home run and a pair of Dominic Ramos errors en route to a six-run fifth inning that all but slammed the door on Texas State's bid for a sixth straight win.

The Bobcats battled back, scoring one in the home half of the fifth and two more in the sixth, but UTSA again put distance on the scoreboard with a two-run home run in the top of the seventh inning.

Texas State then used a three-run eighth, marked by Kyle Jones' two-RBI double to left and Luke Cannon's RBI single that tied the game at ten.

The Roadrunners were able to get Danielson into scoring position in the top half of the ninth, and the Kansas State transfer outfielder moved to third on Scott Moore's wild pitch. Ryan Crew then lifted a ball into deep center field, which was caught by Cassidy Dresch, but Danielson scored from third, putting UTSA up by one, which was where the game would end.

Three Bobcats had big offensive nights, as Ramos went three-for-five with three runs scored, Nolan Mast went four-for-six with two RBI and three runs scored, and Jones finished the night three-for-four with three RBI and a pair of trips across the plate.

Texas State fell to 18-9 overall and 3-1 in Southland Conference play, while UTSA improved to 7-16 and 3-1 in SLC play. Moore took his first loss of the season for the Bobcats, dropping his record to 4-1 on the season. Bobcat starter Bobby Sawicki pulled two strike outs closer to the Texas State all-time mark, giving him 208 career strike outs, which is 25 shy of the all-time mark of 233.

The Bobcats and Roadrunners will take the series to San Antonio Saturday and Sunday, with Saturday's game slated for 2 p.m., at Roadrunner Field.
