SAN MARCOS, Texas - Second baseman Ashley Wilson hit her third homerun of the season diving in Katie Ann Trahan and Amy Krueger to give Texas State the 5-3 win in the first game of the doubleheader with Texas-San Antonio Friday.
Texas State (16-18, 10-4) fell 12-3 in the nightcap to UTSA. The Roadrunners were led by center fielder Jennifer Davis who went 2 for 4 with 3 RBI's in UTSA's win.
Trahan improved her record to 14-13 pitching all nine innings for the Bobcats. She allowed only three runs on five Roadrunner hits striking out 13 and walking none. Hope Ortiz recorded her first loss of the season allowing three runs on three Bobcat hits.
After seven innings of play, in the first game, Texas State and UTSA were all tied up 2-2 sending the Bobcats into extra innings for the fourth time this season.
The score remained tied until at the top of the ninth inning UTSA's Jessica Rogers plated a double up the middle scoring second baseman Mel Torres. The Bobcats defense put away two batters to end the Roadrunners threat.
In the nightcap, eight of UTSA's nine batters scored at least one run to improve the Roadrunners record for the season to 23-14 and 7-4 in the SLC. Ursula Mares notched her 11 win of the season pitching the complete second game for the Roadrunners.
Kristin Gunter and Holly Britain accounted for Texas State's offense in the second game. Gunter hit a 2RBI homerun in the bottom of the second to bring the Bobcats with in three. Britain hit a solo homerun in the fourth to make the score 3-5, but that was as close as the Bobcats would get.
In the top of sixth, Ashley Long hit her second homerun of the night to solidify UTSA's win.
Texas State and Texas-San Antonio will conclude the series with a single game on Saturday. The first pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at Bobcat Field.
