Box Score

SAN MARCOS - Dominic Ramos went three-for-six with three RBI and three runs scored, and Jose Rodriguez hit his third home run of the season in Texas State's 15-6 win over Texas Southern Wednesday night at Bobcat Field.

The Bobcats piled up 16 hits and drew seven walks, on the way to their fifth straight victory and fourth straight double-digit offensive output.

Texas State jumped on Texas Southern early, scoring four in the bottom of the first on Kyle Anson's two-RBI double and Rodriguez's two-run home run, his third of the season.

Texas Southern would answer in the top of the second, cutting the Bobcat lead to one after scoring three runs on three singles that plated one run a piece. The Tigers tied the game in the top of the third inning on Travis Spencer's one-out wild pitch.

Texas State regained the lead in the bottom of the third on Elliot Babcock's RBI single that plated Anson, and added three more in the fourth. The Bobcats put up three again in the fifth, making the score 11-4. Texas State again put three on the board in the eighth, thanks in part to a monster two-run home run by Miguel Mercado that sailed over the left-center field wall.

Ramos sparked the offense with his three base hits, three runs scored and three RBI, and the senior shortstop also stole his tenth base of the season for the Bobcats. Rodriguez went three-for-five in the contest including his first-inning home run, and the senior utility player was a triple shy of the cycle, logging a single, double and home run in the game.

In all, each Bobcat starter hit safely in the game, and five Texas State starters had a multiple-base-hit game. Anson went two-for-two, scoring three runs, driving home two and drawing three free passes on the night. Babcock and catcher Doug Pearce were the other two Bobcats with multiple hits in the game, as each player went two-for-four

Coachman and pitcher/designated hitter David Arrendendo fired the Texas Southern offense, both going two-for-five on the night.

Texas State used five pitchers in the game, as Spencer, the game's starter, went just three innings, striking out four. Steven Siers came on in relief of Spencer, going two innings and gaining his first win of the season, pushing his record to 1-0. B.J. Boening pitched two innings in relief of Siers, with Ryan Bennett and Jason Baca taking care of the game's eighth and ninth innings.

Arrendendo took the loss for Texas Southern, dropping his record to 1-1 and the team's record to 9-8. The win for Texas State was its fifth straight, and pushed the Bobcats' record to 18-8 heading into this weekend's Southland Conference series with Texas-San Antonio.

The Bobcats will play a split series with UT-San Antonio this weekend, with game one of the series taking place Friday at Bobcat Field in San Marcos. The series will then move to San Antonio for Saturday's game two and Sunday's game three at Roadrunner Field. Friday's first pitch between the Bobcats and Roadrunners is set for 6:30 p.m., in San Marcos.
