Texas State Drops Second Straight, 9-3, In Round Rock

ROUND ROCK - For the second time this season, Texas A&M downed Texas State at The Dell Diamond in Round Rock. The Bobcats gave up nine runs on 15 hits to the Aggies in the loss.

The Bobcats were shut out and held without a hit through four innings by Texas A&M starter Austin Creps. Creps, who made his first start as an Aggie, put a strangle-hold on Texas State's bats, going six innings, striking out two and giving up one run on the way to his first collegiate win.

The Aggies got on the board early with a two-run first, capped by a Ryan Hill sacrifice fly and a Keith Stein RBI single. Texas A&M scored a single run in each of the game's next three innings, jumping out to a 5-0 lead through four.

Texas State got on the board for the first time in the fifth, scoring on Kyle Jones' RBI-ground out that plated Luke Cannon. Cannon paced the Bobcats offensively by going two-for-three with two RBI and a run scored.

Cannon's RBI came in the seventh, when with two aboard and nobody out, Cannon took a pitch down the right field line for a stand-up double that brought home Nolan Mast and Kyle Anson.

The Bobcats got four innings out of starter Ryan Bennett, who struck out four, giving up five runs on eight hits to Texas A&M batters. Chris Hill came on in the sixth and pitched two innings, sriking out three and giving up one run on two hits. Jarod Garza gave up two runs and two hits in his one inning pitched, while Jason Baca gave up one run on two hits in his one inning pitched. Scott Moore closed the game out for Texas State, pitching one inning, striking out one and allowing one hit.

Bennett took the loss for the Bobcats, dropping his record to 3-2, while the Bobcats fell to 13-8 on the year. Creps, now 1-0, got the win for Texas A&M in his first-ever start for the Aggies.

The Bobcats begin Southland Conference play on Friday at Bobcat Field against Nicholls State. Game time between the Colonels and Bobcats is slated for 6:30 p.m.
