Softball Closes Series with 5-3 Win Over SFA

SAN MARCOS - The Texas State Bobcat softball team (13-16, 7-2) finished its three-game Southland Conference series against Stephen F. Austin with a 5-3 win over the Ladyjacks Sunday at Bobcat Field.

Sarah Lancour recorded her first win of the season, pitching a complete game for the Bobcats. Lancour struck out five while allowing three runs on five hits.

Amy Krueger led the Bobcats' offense, going two-for-three on the day. Third baseman Holly Britain scored on a wild pitch in the second inning to give the Bobcats an early 1-0 lead. Krueger put the Bobcats up 2-0 in the third, scoring on a sacrifice fly to right field off the bat of catcher Rachael Bonetti.

Stephen F. Austin posted three runs in the fourth to take a 3-2 lead. Carrie Wodziak scored on a base hit by Lee Lara. Lara later scored on a bunt single Kristina Swart. Swart scored the Ladyjacks' third run on a throwing error by the Bobcats.

The `Cats scored three runs in the fifth inning to take a 5-3 lead. SFA pitcher Kaitlin Morrison walked Bonetti with the bases loaded sending Amy Hromadka across the plate to tie the game at 3-3. Ashley Wilson drove in the winning run with a single to centerfield to score Krueger. Texas State added an insurance run when Heather Ackley pinch hit for Leslie Sharp with the bases loaded and walked, allowing Katie Ann Trahan to score from third.

The Bobcats travel to Lubbock to play a double-header at Texas Tech on Tuesday. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Rocky Johnson Field. The Red Raiders are 12-9 and coming of an 11-0 win over Valparaiso.
