SAN MARCOS - The Texas State Bobcat softball team (12-16, 6-2) swept both games of a Southland Conference double-header Saturday, beating Stephen F. Austin 5-3 and 8-7.
Texas State pitcher Katie Ann Trahan registered the win in both games, improving to 12-12. Trahan also led the Bobcat offense scoring three runs off two home runs and drove in four runs.
In the first game, the Bobcats got on the board in the first inning with a two-run homer.
The Ladyjacks came back to gain a 3-2 lead in the top of the second. Lee Lara led off the inning by being hit by a pitch and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. Katrina Swart would draw a walk to put runners on first and second. Lara would score on a base hit by Hersey and Swart later scored on a throwing error. The Ladyjacks would add another run when Hersey scored on a double to centerfield by Jessica Tullos.
Texas State's Rachael Bonetti would score on a Ladyjack error in the bottom of the fourth to tie the score, 3-3.
In the fifth, Trahan homered for the second time, giving the Bobcats a 4-3 lead. Shortstop Leslie Sharp reached on an error allowing Ashton Peters to score the final run of the game in the sixth inning.
To begin the second game, Stephen F. Austin's Crystal Dahlquest scored on a Lara sacrifice bunt. Texas State tied the score when, with the bases loaded, Bonetti walked to score Amy Krueger.
With the bases loaded again in the second inning the Ladyjacks walked Trahan to score Sharp and give Texas State the lead and the `Cats would add two runs to jump out in front, 4-1.
SFA slowly picked away at Texas State's lead. With a run in the third and three runs in the fourth, the Ladyjacks were out in front 5-4.
Bobcat second baseman Ashley Wilson tripled down the right field line with two outs to drive in Trahan. Wilson later scored from third and Kristin Gunter doubled to left center to score Bonetti. Gunter then moved to third on a Ladyjack error and scored on the throw to put Texas State up 8-5 heading into the fifth inning.
Stephen F. Austin threatened a comeback in the seventh when with two outs Ragan Rutherford drove in two runs with a single to right field bringing the Ladyjacks to cut the `Cats' lead to a run before Swart grounded out to Trahan to end the game.
The Ladyjacks and the Bobcats will conclude the series with a single game at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday.
