Texas State Drops Final Game to Sam Houston State

HUNTSVILLE, Texas -- Stephanie Mosley's RBI single to left field in the bottom of the eighth inning gave Sam Houston State the 4-3 victory over Texas State as the Bearkats won two of the three games with the Bobcats in both team's second league series of the 2005 season.

Pitchers Shalayne Blythe and Katie Ann Trahan battled for eight innings with Blythe getting the victory, her second in two days. Blythe struck out 13 Bobcat batters while allowing eight hits. Trahan struck out 10 and held the Bearkats to nine hits. Trahan pitched 21 of the 22 innings in the three game series.

Lauren Boone scored three of SHSU's four runs. She walked to lead off the first inning. Mosley singled and Elizabeth Gibson reached first on an error to load the bases. Chrissy Dileo's singled to score Boone and Erin Lindsey's sacrifice bunt scored Mosley to give Sam Houston the early 2-0 lead.

Ashley Wilson led off the fourth inning with a home run. Trahan reached on an error and Rachel Bonetti singled. Both scored on a two-out, bases loaded single by Heather Ackley giving Texas State the 3-2 lead.

The Bearkats tied the score 3-3, eventually sending the game into extra innings, when Boone singled in the fourth inning and scored on a single by Chrissy Dileo.

The Bobcats will continue league play this weekend as they play host to Stephen F. Austin. The three game series will kick-off with a double-header on Saturday, with the first pitch scheduled for 1:00 p.m. The Ladyjacks and the Bobcats will conclude the series with a single game at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday.
