Texas State Suffers 5-2 Loss at Dallas Baptist

Rain washed away half of the eighth and all of the ninth inning Tuesday night at Dallas Baptist, but in the seven and a half innings before the weather delay, the Patriots created quite a storm for Texas State.

Dallas Baptist jumped on top in the second inning, scoring one run after loading the bases with two outs. The Patriots got three more in the bottom of the third, extending their lead to 4-0.

Texas State got on the board an inning later, plating two runs in the top of the fifth to cut the Patriot lead to 4-2. The Bobcats would threaten in the next two innings but were unable to cross the plate.

Dallas Baptist scored its final run of the game in the sixth, putting one across and pushing the lead to 5-2.

Rain began falling on Patriot Field in the seventh, and in the eighth, play was suspended due to lightning in the area surrounding Patriot Field. Two delays of 30 minutes were held before officials made the 5-2 eighth-inning score final.

Jarod Garza took the loss for the Bobcats, dropping his record to 2-1. The Patriots improve to 7-5 on the season, while the loss dropped Texas State's record to 10-4. Tuesday night's loss coupled with Sunday's loss at Louisiana-Lafayette marked the first time the Bobcats have lost back-to-back games this season.

Texas State resumes play Saturday at the Maxwell Auto Group Round Rock Collegiate Classic, against the Nebraska Cornhuskers at 11 a.m.
