Texas State Drops 76-59 Decision at SFA

NACOGDOCHES - Anthony Paez scored 15 points and Josh Porter chipped in 12 as Stephen F. Austin defeated Texas State 76-59 Wednesday in William R. Johnson Coliseum.

With the win, Stephen F. Austin improved to 11-9 and 5-4 in the Southland Conference. Texas State is now 11-10 and 5-5 heading into Saturday's game at Texas-San Antonio.

Porter knocked down a pair of three-pointers and scored the Lumberjacks' first eight points of the second half as SFA turned a 35-16 lead at the break into a 45-20 advantage.

Texas State would shoot 60 percent from the field in the second half but after falling behind by such a large margin early, the `Cats never threatened in the period.

After jumping out to a quick 4-0 lead, Texas State went on a scoring drought which lasted almost 11 minutes. The Bobcats went 15 possessions without a bucket at one point in the period, missing nine straight shots while turning the ball over six times during the stretch.

In the mean time, SFA scored 22 straight points in building an 18-point lead before Anthony Dill broke the cold spell with a short jumper.

Texas State made just 6-of-23 shots in the first half (26 percent) and were outrebounded by the Lumberjacks 26-10 in the first period. For the game, SFA outrebounded the Bobcats 40-23.

SFA took a 35-16 lead to the locker room at the break as Rodrigo Segantim connected on a three-pointer at the buzzer. The bucket answered a three-pointer by Lance Burroughs on Texas State's last offensive possession of the half.

With Brad Brickens leaving the game in the first half with a reoccurring shoulder injury and Chris Langhorne sidelined the second period with an ankle injury, freshman guard Roderick Adams came on to score a career-high 11 points in the second half for the Bobcats. Markee White also equaled a career high, finishing with 14 points.

Josh Naylor scored a game-high 19 points for the Bobcats.
