LEHIGH 3, TEXAS STATE 1

Despite jumping to an early lead in their opening round of Bronze Bracket play, the Bobcats could not overcome a three-run fifth inning rally by Lehigh and dominant pitching from Emily Ling, as the Mountain Hawks (2-2) edged Texas State by a 3-1 count on Saturday evening.

Texas State jumped to an early 1-0 lead in the second inning when sophomore third baseman Heather Ackley launched a solo home run to left. It was her first round-tripper of the season. The Bobcat bats were held at bay for the remainder of the contest, as Ling was masterful in the circle, striking out 13 and allowing only three hits the rest of the way.

The Bobcat lead was intact until Mountain Hawks' catcher Mary Wieder led off the fifth inning with a double. After being sacrificed to third, an Ackley error plated Wieder with the tying run.

A two-run home run off the bat of Lehigh rightfielder Julie Sterrett gave the Mountain Hawks the lead that they would not relinquish.

SETON HALL 5, TEXAS STATE 0

Five Texas State errors and a dominant pitching performance from Seton Hall's Megan Meyer led to the Pirates' 5-0 victory over the Bobcats in second day action at the 2005 NFCA Leadoff Classic in Columbus, Ga.

Meyer (3-2) allowed only five hits in the contest, and the Pirate offense took advantage of multiple Bobcat miscues.

The Pirates third inning rally was highlighted by a sacrifice RBI bunt from shortstop Katie Pierce. That was followed by a one-out RBI double off the bat of first baseman Laura Taylor to plate Darcy Djakalovich, who had reached on a throwing error by Bobcat pitcher Katie Ann Trahan (5-9).

Another Trahan throwing error allowed Pirate centerfielder Akoua Lonergan to reach base and started the Pirates' fourth inning rally. Caitlin White next followed with an RBI single, and a Djakalovich double produced Seton Hall's fourth run.

A Lindsay Trottier solo home run in the seventh off Bobcat reliever Olivia Henley capped the scoring.
