Texas State senior forward Zach Allison scored seven of his 16 points in overtime as Texas State defeated Lamar 83-75 to secure a share of fifth place in the Southland Conference standings Saturday.
With the win, the Bobcats improved to 13-11 and 7-6 in SLC play. Lamar is now 15-9 and 7-6.
The two teams went to overtime tied at 70-70 and after Lamar's Raymond Anthony tied the game at 72-72 in overtime, Allison scored the next five points. He was fouled after an offensive rebound and after missing his first free throw made his second to give the `Cats a 73-72 lead with 2:45 in the extra period. Another Allison offensive board led to two free throws. And after Allison pulled down a defensive board he stepped in for a jumper at the other end of the floor and Texas State was out in front 77-72 with 1:20 to play.
Anthony would make 1-of-2 free throws before the `Cats scored the next six to ice the win.
Lance Burroughs who scored a career-high nine points hit a fade away jumper with 31.8 seconds. Lamar's Josh Goodwin missed a three-point shot that was rebounded by Allison who was quickly fouled and knocked down two more at the line.
Lamar forward Alan Daniels scored a game-high 24 points, going 9-of-18 from the field and knocking down 5-of-8 three-pointers. Anthony finished with 10 points.
Allison finished with 10 rebounds, including five on the offensive glass, to register a double-double. Texas State's Anthony Dill and Josh Naylor also finished with 16 points to lead the Bobcats.
Texas State wraps up a three-game home stand next Thursday against McNeese State.
