SAN MARCOS - Kyle Anson drove home three runs, and Nolan Mast hit his first home run of the season, powering Texas State to a 5-0 win over Texas-Pan American Tuesday.
Texas State used four pitchers in the win, including five innings and just three hits for winning pitcher Ryan Bennett. Brady Robbins pitched one inning, Jarod Garza two and Travis Spencer finished the game's final inning for the Bobcats in the shut-out victory.
The Bobcats scored their first run in the third when Mast came home on an RBI single from Dominic Ramos. Texas State struck again in the fifth inning when Anson used a single to knock home Dawid Bednarek for his first of three runs batted in on the night.
Texas State used a three-run seventh inning to put UTPA away, scoring on Mast's solo home run and Anson's two-run double. The homer was Mast's first round tripper of the year.
The Broncs were paced offensively by Louie Alamia, who went two-of-four in the game. Taking the loss for UTPA was Dane Mason, dropping his record to 0-3 on the season.
The win pushes Ryan Bennett's record to 2-0 on the year, and the Bobcats are now 5-1 on the season. The loss drops the Broncs to 2-6 this season.
The two teams will meet again Wednesday, with the first pitch coming at 3 p.m. at Bobcat Field.
