LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Nebraska's Jamie Waldecker belted a two-run single in the fifth inning and Sheena Lawrick hit a grand slam in the sixth as the 18th-ranked Cornhuskers came from behind to beat Texas State 9-2 Saturday at the Louisville Slugger UNLV Desert Classic.

With the win, Nebraska evened its record to 1-1 while Texas State dropped to 3-2 heading into a late game Saturday against Oregon.

Saturday's games were the first of the tournament as the classic was rained out on Friday.

Against Nebraska, Texas State got out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first inning.

Amy Hromadka led off with an infield single and advanced to third on a base hit by Amy Krueger and a throwing effort by Nebraska shortstop Anne Steffan. Hromadka scored when Waldecker's pick off throw from behind the plate sailed into left field. Krueger would later score on a two-out double by Kristin Gunter.

But it was all Nebraska after that as the Cornhuskers took the lead with three unearned runs in the third.

After Saturday's late game with Oregon, the Bobcats are scheduled to take on Wichita State and Utah Sunday.
