St. Edward's David Lunn scored 23 points and Shawn Weinstein finished with 22 as the Hilltoppers posted an 81-70 win over Texas State Saturday in Strahan Coliseum.
Texas State remained winless on the year, falling to 0-7. The Bobcats play their next two on the road, traveling to Texas-Pan American on Thursday before traveling to Texas on Dec. 22. St. Edward's improved to 6-3 on the year.
The first half of the game featured eight ties and seven lead changes. The Bobcats last led 28-26 on a Charles Dotson jumper before St. Edward's ended the half with a 9-2 run. During the Hilltoppers' run to end the half, Weinstein drilled back-to-back three-pointers en route to a 35-30 halftime lead.
St. Edward's led by as many as 12 points, 43-31 with 17:42 to play. But Texas State would erase the lead, as back-to-back buckets by Brandon Bush, including a three-point play on a layup with 2:39 to play tied the game, 69-69. The Hilltoppers would answer with a Taylor Mullenax layup and a Bobcat turnover led to a pair of Weinstein free throws to put SEU up 71-67.
Texas State turned the ball over 23 times leading to 28 Hilltopper points.
A layin by Chris Langhorne cut the lead back to two points with 1:29 to play before St. Edward's finished the game with a 10-1 run as the Bobcats missed their final four shots.
Dotson finished with a career-high 20 points and had eight rebounds while Trevor Cook added 15 points and had four of the Bobcats' 11 school-record blocked shots.
