Rashad Jones-Jennings and Zack Wright each scored 17 points as Arkansas-Little Rock defeated Texas State 73-54 Saturday at the Stephens Center.
UALR improved to 2-1 with the win. Texas State is now 0-4 on the year. The Bobcats return home to play host to SMU on Thursday.
Texas State was led by Jushay Rockett who scored 15 points on 6-for-12 shooting. He also had four rebounds and two blocks in 22 minutes of play. But Rockett was the only player to score in double figures for the Bobcats as they shot 42 percent from the field.
The `Cats led by as many as five in the first half. Brandon Bush drilled a three-pointer with 10:02 to play to give Texas State a 17-12 lead. But from that point, UALR went on an 11-0 run.
Wright started the run with a three-pointer and Lekheythan Malone had a pair of baskets during a five-minute stretch that put the Trojans up 23-17 with 5:27 left in the first quarter. UALR would stretch the first-half lead to as many as eight but a Bush three-pointer with 38 seconds left in the half cut the deficit to 30-25 at the break.
In the second half, Texas State would cut UALR's lead to as few as two points, 41-39 with 13:23 to play when Jeremy Johnson made a pair of three throws to cap a six-point run. But the Trojans extended their lead to 52-39 during a two-minute stretch in which the `Cats turned the ball over three times. For the game, Texas State had 20 turnovers leading to 25 UALR points.
D'Andre Eggins added 14 points and pulled down seven rebounds while Malone scored 11 points for UALR.
