Angela Crissy scored what would be the game winning goal, her sixth, at the 58:32 mark as Texas State defeated Nicholls State 6-2 on Sunday afternoon at the Bobcat Soccer Complex. Sunday's match marked the end of regular season play with the Bobcats earning a berth into the Southland Soccer Championships scheduled for Nov. 3-6 in Natchitoches, La.
After falling behind 2-1 by halftime, Texas State (8-9 overall, 5-2 SLC) dominated Nicholls State (2-13, 0-7 SLC) in the second half, outshooting the opposition 23-0.
Six Bobcats recorded goals on the afternoon. The only Bobcat goal of the first half came from Delayna Spivey (4) on a penalty kick at 24:43. The Bobcats gave up two first half goals before recording five of their own in the second.
Natalie Holder evened the match at two early in the second to set up the comeback. Spivey and Amy Benton enjoyed three-point games. Spivey assisted on Holder's tying goal, while Benton added her third of the season before assisting on the last goal of the game from Natalie Jackson.
Texas State's leading scorer, Jerelyn Lemmie, nabbed her ninth on a pass from Erin Mursch.
Though she did not face any shots in the second half, Bobcat goalkeeper Paige Perriraz made two saves in the first. She finishes the regular season with a 1.83 GAA after making 69 saves and allowing 20 goals.
The Colonels scored at the 13:28 when Heather Gamble recorded her second off a corner kick from Tori Priddy. Denise Prewett scored her first of the season when the Colonels made three consecutive shots on goal.
Goalkeeper Sarah Neunzig made ten saves for the Colonels, seven coming in the second half.
The Bobcats won three straight, including a 2-1 overtime victory over Southeastern Louisiana on Friday evening, to close the regular season. Texas State started the season going 0-6, but has been 7-3 since grabbing their first win from Prairie View A&M.
Texas State, who went 4-1 at home, now looks to defend last season's SLC Tournament Championship. Tournament action begins on Wednesday. Stephen F. Austin enters the Tournament as the number one seed after earning the SLC Regular Season title on Friday evening.
