Playing its fourth home game of the season, Texas State improved to 7-9 overall (4-2 SLC) after knocking off Southeastern Louisiana 2-1 in overtime at the Bobcat Soccer Complex on Friday evening.
Delayna Spivey was the hero for Texas State. After receiving a yellow card with 3:45 left in the overtime, the junior scored her third goal of the season 15 seconds later to clinch the sudden victory for the `Cats.
The Bobcats went ahead early in the contest, as they sustained offensive pressure throughout the first half. Defender Kim Phillips shot her first of the season when she beat Lions goalkeeper Crista Wood one-on-one at the 27 minute mark of the first half.
On the evening, Texas State out shot the Lions 17-10, but shots were even at seven apiece after halftime. Both Spivey and Phillips notched a game-high four shots.
After holding Southeastern Louisiana to just three shots in the first half, Texas State allowed the Lions to even the score with just 15 minutes to play in regulation. The goal, from Kari Yost (1), came on a free kick from 35 yards out. The ball trickled past Bobcat keeper Paige Perriraz to tie the match at one.
Janae Sheldon had four shots for Southeastern Louisiana (3-11-1, 1-6 SLC), three of which went on goal. Wood made seven saves in the losing effort.
The Bobcats close the regular season on Sunday when they host Nicholls State (2-12, 0-6 SLC) at 1 p.m. Before kickoff, head coach Kat Conner and her team will honor lone senior Kristina Troxel.
Texas State heads to the Southland Conference Tournament for first-round action on Thursday in Natchitoches, La.
