Soccer Splits Weekend Road Trip

HUNTSVILLE - Texas State erased a two-goal deficit to earn a 3-2 win over Sam Houston State (0-9-0 overall, 0-1 SLC) Sunday afternoon. The Bobcats went 1-1 on the weekend, losing to Stephen F. Austin 2-1 on Friday evening.

After falling behind 2-0 in the game's first 11 minutes, Natalie Jackson got Texas State (4-8-0, 1-1 SLC) on the board when she scored her second goal of the season.

The Bobcats struck early in the second half when Reagan McNutt (3) kicked a goal with help from Texas State assist leader Natalie Holder (5). The pair converged only two minutes into the half to even the match.

Delayna Spivey (2) earned her first game winning goal of the season on a header off a cornerkick from freshman Rikki Padia. The goal prevented a possible overtime match, coming with only one minute left in regulation.

Two goalkeepers saw action for the Bobcats. Paige Perriraz started the game and made three saves. Brittany Beltramini played her first minutes since spraining her ankle and sitting out five games. She held the Bearkats scoreless in the second, notching four saves.

Sam Houston State's Charity Lett scored the game's first goal, with an assist from Jaclyn Friday. Kim Brown added the second goal on an assist from Yoanna Garcia.

Bearkat goalkeeper Melissa Sauceda made six saves, four in the first half.

Sunday's game marked the end of an eight-game road trip for the Bobcats as they wrapped up their first weekend of Southland Conference play.

Texas State hosts Louisiana-Monroe (7-5-0, 0-0 SLC) next Sunday at 1 p.m. The game is a rematch of last year's SLC title game that Texas State won 1-0.
