Northwestern State Edges Texas State

NATCHITOCHES - Texas State lost its second Southland Conference match on Friday night, falling to Northwestern State 4-2. The Bobcats move to 5-9-0 overall and 2-2 in the SLC with the loss.

For the third time in four contests, the Bobcats went down by at least two goals before getting on the board.

After allowing three goals in the games first 31 minutes, the Bobcats got on the board when Jerelyn Lemmie scored her sixth goal of the season. Freshman Rikki Padia, a Kingwood native, assisted on the scoring drive. The assist, her sixth, makes Padia the team's assist leader edging Natalie Holder for the top spot.

Reagan McNutt added a goal, her fifth, on an assist from Natalie Jackson. Four Bobcats recorded two shots each on the evening, including Holder, Lemmie, McNutt and Kayla Thornton.

Paige Perriraz notched seven saves in 90 minutes of work.

Northwestern State (9-4-1, 4-0 SLC) remains undefeated in the SLC. Julie Zavala, who scored two goals in the win, is among the SLC's leaders in goals, shots and points. The Demons also got goals from Hannah Casey and Erin Hebert. NSU outshot Texas State 21-9, as goalkeeper Johanna Klohoker made three saves.

The Bobcats return to action on Sunday when the host McNeese State. This will be the Cowgirls' second game since Sept. 18 after Hurricane Rita cause extensive damage to their Lake Charles campus. McNeese played to a 0-0 tie with Louisiana-Monroe Friday afternoon.

Sundays' kick off is slated for 1 p.m. at the Bobcat Soccer Complex.
