Texas State Ends Road Trip With, 64-62 Win Over Lamar

BEAUMONT, Texas - Texas State (5-8, 2-0) held Lamar (7-6, 1-1) off from scoring until four minutes into the first half when Alexis Timpone converted on a three point shot. Both the Bobcats and Lady Cardinals battled back and forth for control of Saturday's game. In the end Texas State won, 64-62.

Texas State gained the lead back with 13:59 left to play on a lay-up by Jeana Hoffman. Timpone would score on another from behind the arch at 9:20 on the clock to give the Lady Cardinals back the lead.

In the first half the teams tied the score five times and the lead changed ten times. The fifth tie came when Jenna Hoffman converted on two free throws with 1:10 left on the clock. Jana Mustard for Lamar shot two free throws to end the half with the 'Cats leading 30-29.

Tori Talbert started the second half with a jumper to increase the Bobcat lead. Lady Cardinals Shaquita Coffey and LaToya Carson each scored to give Lamar back the lead.

With 11:31 left in the game Jenna Hoffman connected from behind the arch to give the 'Cats the lead, which they held onto for the rest of the game. The largest lead the Bobcats had was by seven, at the 5:07 mark. Tamara Thompson scored on an assist from Jeana.

Talbert recorded her fourth double double of the season with 20 points and 12 boards, leading all players. She was joined in double digit scoring by Jeana Hoffman with 12 points, a career high, and Thompson with ten.

Two Lady Cardinals scored in double figures. Timpone led Lamar with 17 and she was helped out by Audrea Samuel with 14 points and eight boards.

Next, Texas State finally returns home after its six game road stint. The Bobcats will be playing host to Southland Conference opponent Nicholls State at Strahan Coliseum at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
