Final Stats
SAN MARCOS, Texas - The Texas State soccer team (2-1) lost its home opener Friday 5-0 to Loyola-Maryland (2-1). It was not a complete loss though as head coach Kat Conner said, "We learned a lot from their side."
Loyola's first goal came five minutes into the game from junior midfielder Ashley Kramer.
Ali Andrzejewski scored the second goal of the game with assists from Kramer and Naomi Daniels.
Carolyn Kennington found the back of the net at 14:57 on the clock for the Greyhounds third goal. Making the score at the half 3-0.
Coach Conner said, "Kristina Troxel solidified our defense and slowed down their penetration."
Fifteen minutes into the second period Daniels scored off a penalty kick, giving the Hounds the four point lead.
Two minutes later Leigh Ann Mastrini connected on a cross from Daniels for the game's final goal.
"They have what we are working towards, they are very good at supporting their shape," Coach Conner said, "I am very glad they came."
"We are a young team, we had nine freshmen and sophomores on the field tonight. Kayla Thornton showed us a very hopeful glimpse of the future."
Sunday the 'Cats are at home again at 1 p.m. against Florida International. "The FIU game will be very much like [Loyola's] game. They are fast and well coached," said Conner.
