SAN MARCOS -
Texas State opened the 2004 NCAA spring National Letter of Intent period with the signing of guard Andre Oupoh, head coach Dennis Nutt announced today.
Oupoh is a guard (6-3, 225) from Frank Phillips Junior College in Borger, Texas. As a sophomore last season, he averaged 13 points and seven rebounds a game for Coach Lou Gudino. Oupoh was named First-Team All-Conference as he shot 75 percent from the line and made 46 percent of his three-point tries. The team finished 17-14 and advanced to the Region V Tournament.
"Andre was the heart and soul of our basketball team this year," Frank Phillip College Coach Lou Gudino said. "He is a special young man who brings toughness and a strong work ethic every day."
Oupoh is originally from Newark, Delaware, and graduated from John Dickinson High, and he was an honorable mention All-State selection.
"We are extremely excited to have Andre join our family," Texas State Coach Dennis Nutt said. "He has a chance to have an immediate impact on the Bobcats. His size along with his quickness, explosiveness and shooting ability could make him a difficult match up for opposing teams."
Oupoh was also recruited by UAB, UTSA, Stephen F. Austin, Idaho and LaSalle.
The Bobcats signed two high school seniors, Roderick Adams and Matt Canady, during the early signing period in November.
Nutt has indicated that more signings will be made soon.
