SAN MARCOS, Texas - The Bobcat volleyball team finished second at the Fullerton Classic Saturday, after falling in the final match to host Cal State Fullerton (3-0) in five games (2-3). The Bobcats went 2-1 at the tournament defeating both Iona and Delaware in earlier action.
Texas State got off to a great start by winning the first game 30-25, but the Titans quickly evened the match at 1-1 with a 30-16 game-two victory. The game seesawed back and fourth as the `Cats took the third game 30-26, only to have Fullerton storm back in the fourth game 30-13.
In the fifth game, the Bobcats battled to the end, but ultimately fell to the home team by a score of 15-10.
Junior Lizzy Nwoke had a great match for the Bobcats with a team-best 17 kills, while Kelly Fletcher placed second on the team in kills with 14.
Senior Kacee Rogers led the team in blocks with four assisted, and was third highest on the team in kills with 12.
Leading the team in assists was senior Krystal Kolkhorst with 49 of the team's 50 total.
Liberos Kristy Jones and Amy Ramirez each played well defensively collecting 27 total digs, while senior Stephanie Torregrosa and freshman Brittany Prewit each contributed 11 digs.
Texas State will continue its road swing on Tuesday, Sep. 7, when it takes on the No. 15 ranked Texas A&M at College Station, Tex.
