SAN MARCOS, Texas - The Texas State volleyball team captured its first win in Southland Conference play on Saturday night with a 3-1 (25-30, 30-24, 30-20, 30-25) victory over the Lamar Cardinals (6-5, 0-3). The win improves the Bobcats to 6-4 overall and 1-2 in conference.
Leading the way for the Bobcats was sophomore outside hitter Kelly Fletcher who recorded a double-double with a team-high 14 kills and 13 defensive digs. Also recording her second double-double in as many matches was senior setter Krystal Kolkhorst with 48 assists and 18 defensive digs.
The `Cats had two other players reach double figures in digs as senior libero Kristy Jones led the team with 19, and senior outside hitter Stephanie Torregrosa added 12. Sophomore middle blocker Karry Griffin led the team in blocks, with 4 of the team's 12 total.
For the match, Texas State recorded 60 kills and an attack percentage of .182, while the Cardinals struggled to convert on the attack with 50 kills on .065 percent efficiency.
Texas State will continue their road swing on Sep. 24 with a showdown against preseason favorite Stephen F. Austin (7-2, 0-1). The match will begin at 7:00 p.m. at the William R. Johnson Coliseum in Nacogdoches, Texas.
