Sylvia Fowles scored 18 points and grabbed 11 rebounds as No. 1 ranked LSU defeated Texas State 78-38 here Thursday.

Texas State senior center Tori Talbert became the school record holder for career rebounds and also surpassed the 1,500 point plateau in the loss. Talbert scored nine points and had six boards in surpassing Linda Muelker (1981-1985) for the career rebounding mark. The Boerne native now has 1,007 career rebounds. Muelker had 1,005 rebounds during her career.

Heading into Southland Conference play, Talbert has scored 1,508 career points.

The Bobcats (3-8) return to action Wednesday when they travel to McNeese State to open SLC play. LSU is now 12-0 on the year.

In Thursday's loss, Texas State had four turnovers in the opening minutes as LSU quickly jumped out to a 13-0 lead. Both Temeka Johnson and Seimone Augustus added 13 points apiece in the Lady Tigers' win.

Talbert entered the game averaging better than nine rebounds an outing but was held to two in the first half against LSU. She had back-to-back boards pulling down an offensive rebound and later grabbing a defensive board to tie Muelker for the school record.

Late in the game Talbert pulled down a pair of defensive boards to secure the record outright.
