Bobcats Sweep Sam Houston State In Home Finale

San Marcos, Texas - The Texas State volleyball team (23-5, 15-3 SLC) finished the 2004 home schedule in strong fashion on Senior Night with a 3-0 (30-24, 30-22, 30-14) victory over intrastate rival Sam Houston State (14-14, 8-10 SLC).

With the win the `Cats finish the season 12-2 at Strahan Coliseum and have now won 18 of its last 19 matches.

The match was decided at the service line where Texas State held an 8-to-2 advantage in aces including four-straight to open the third game from senior middle blocker Kacee Rogers.

In her final match at home Rogers finished with nine kills on a match-high .444 hitting percentage and three digs.

Senior setter Krystal Kolkhorst had a double-double with 39 assists and 10 digs, while senior libero Kristy Jones led all players in the match with 19 digs.

Also in her final home appearance, senior outside hitter Stephanie Torregrosa recorded nine kills, two aces, and five digs.

For the match, the `Cats were able to spread the offensive production as five different players had at least 8 kills, including a team-high 10 kills from freshman middle blocker Brandy St. Francis and nine kills from freshman outside hitter Brittany Prewit.

Overall the `Cats hit .279 with 48 kills compared to 37 kills for the Bearkats on .102 hitting.

The Bobcat defense held one of the conference's top offensive players at bay as Alisha Fowler finished the night with only nine kills on .136 hitting.

Texas State remains tied with Stephen F. Austin (playing tonight at Northwestern State) for first place in the Southland as they finish the 2004 regular season with a two-match Louisiana road-swing. The `Cats will play at Northwestern State (12-17, 8-9 SLC) on Friday followed by the regular season finale against Louisiana-Monroe (5-23, 0-18) on Nov. 13.
