Bobcats Win In Four Over Nicholls State

San Marcos, Texas - Junior outside hitter Lizzy Nwoke had a match-high 24 kills and senior setter Krystal Kolkhorst provided 65 set assists as Texas State downed the Colonels of Nicholls State in four games (26-30, 30-28, 30-23, 31-29), Friday night.

With the win the Bobcats (21-5, 13-3 SLC) move into a tie with Stephen F. Austin (21-5, 13-3 SLC) for first place in the Southland Conference, after SFA swept Texas-Arlington (21-5, 13-4 SLC) in three games to move the Mavericks a half-match back in second overall.

The loss drops Nicholls State to 8-14 overall and 8-8 in league-play. Both teams had a strong offensive effort as Texas State hit .295 for the match with 74 kills to .288 hitting and 68 kills for NSU.

Freshman middle blocker Brandy St. Francis recorded double figures in kills against the Colonels posting 10 kills on .474 hitting while senior middle blocker Kacee Rogers finished with nine kills and five blocks.

Three Bobcats reached double figures in digs led by senior libero Kristy Jones with 13 digs, while senior outside hitter Stephanie Torregrosa and Kolkhorst each finished with 11.

The Bobcats will play next at Southeastern Louisiana (15-12, 7-9 SLC) on Saturday, Nov. 6 at 4 p.m.

The Lions enter the match winners of its last five including a four-game win over UTSA on Friday night in Hammond.
