Bobcats Win In Four Over NSU

San Marcos, Texas - The Texas State volleyball team (24-5, 16-3 SLC) won on the road in four games (28-30, 30-27, 31-29, 30-27) against the Demons of Northwestern State (12-19, 8-11 SLC).

With the win, the Bobcats remain tied with Stephen F. Austin, who won in three at McNeese State, for first place in the Southland Conference standings with one match remaining for both teams in the 2004 season.

SFA (24-5, 16-3 SLC) will play at Lamar (9-22, 2-17 SLC) while Texas State will play at Louisiana-Monroe (6-23, 0-18) tomorrow at 7 p.m.

The `Cats got off to a slow start in game one, hitting .122 with 12 errors as the Demons took the opening game by two points.

However, Texas State surged back in the final three games, hitting .375, .417, and .327 to finish the match with a .303 hitting percentage compared to .236 for NSU.

Texas State had four players reach double figures in kills led by a season-high 24 from senior outside hitter Stephanie Torregrosa who also added 13 digs on the defensive side.

Freshman middle block Brandy St. Francis continued her recent strong play with 18 kills on a match-high .500 hitting, while junior Lizzy Nwoke added 14 and senior Kacee Rogers finished with 12.

Senior setter Krystal Kolkhorst led all players in the match with 68 set assists while senior libero Kristy Jones had a match-leading 19 digs. Jones' total from tonight elevated her to the fourth highest season dig-total in Texas State history with 435 this season.

For the match, the Bobcats out-dug NSU 71-to-56 as four different `Cats reached double figures.

For the Demons, Whitney King led the way with 15 kills while Ashley Hadley had a team-high 17 digs.
