Cats Close Louisiana Road Trip With A Win At Nicholls State

THIBODAUX, Louisiana - Texas State soccer won its fourth conference game Sunday, 2-1 against Nicholls State University. The sun was beating down it was extremely hot and humid and the field was smaller than the team is used to, but despite all the obstacles in their way the Bobcats were able to come away with the win.
After the 'Cats shutout Southeastern Louisiana on Friday they set their sites on Nicholls to keep themselves at the top of the Southland Conference rankings. Currently Texas State is second in the SLC behind Stephen F. Austin, who is 5-0 in conference play.
Defeating Nicholls improves the Bobcats record to 6-5 over-all and 4-1 in the conference.
Danielle Holloway scored the first goal for Texas State 17:00 minutes into the first period. Making Dani's total goals for the season 10, she currently leads the 'Cats in goals and is second in the conference for goals scored.
Nicholls State answered right back with a goal of their own one minute later scored by Kim Robinson.
The score remained 1-1 well into the second period when Jerelyn Lemmie dribbled the ball down the line and into the box and took a shot on goal, which was blocked. Texas State second was scored when from the block a Nicholls State defender knocked the ball into their own net. Giving the 'Cats the 2-1 lead and the win.
Texas State plays two more conference opponents this weekend at home. Friday at 7pm the Bobcats will be playing host to McNeese State. Sunday will be the day to determine the true leader of the conference when Texas State takes on the number one team in the conference Stephen F. Austin at 1pm. Both games should be good battles to see where all the teams want to be come tournament time.
