The Texas State volleyball team (19-4, 12-2 1st SLC) won a tough three-game match (30-27, 30-20, 30-28) over Texas Pan-American (8-14) at Strahan Coliseum on Tuesday night.
With the win, the Bobcats' winning streak now stands at 14 straight matches dating back to September 18 while the team also improves to 11-1 at home.
Senior outsider hitter, and current SLC Player of the Week, Stephanie Torregrosa recorded her third double-double in her last four matches with a match-leading 12 kills and 15 defensive digs while senior libero Kristy Jones added a match-high 16 digs.
For the match Texas State had 43 kills on .192 hitting while UTPA struggled on offense with 38 kills, 31 attacking errors on .051 hitting.
The Lady Broncs were able to keep the match close with its serving as the team combined for nine service aces compared to three for the Bobcats.
For the third straight match, the Bobcats relied heavily on the reserves led by freshman setter Jessica Grisham who saw action in all three games recording 22 assists, five digs, and one kill.
"Jesse [Grisham] did a great job running the 6-2 set tonight," said Head Coach Karen Chisum. "She made a lot of things happen for us on offense and she deserves a lot of credit."
Along with Grisham, freshman middle blocker Brandy St. Francis added 9 kills and three total blocks, while sophomore middle blocker Karry Griffin collected six kills (.333 hitting) and six digs.
Senior middle blocker Kacee Rogers and junior outside hitter Lizzy Nwoke combined for 14 kills in limited action while senior setter Krystal Kolkhorst finished with 14 assists and three digs.
The Bobcats will wrap up its five-match home stand this Thursday, Oct. 28 when it plays host to conference rival Stephen F. Austin at 7:00 p.m.
It will be the second meeting between the two conference preseason favorites as Texas State won the first meeting in four games at Nacogdoches on Sep. 24.
