MONROE, La. - Louisiana-Monroe's Tara Balogh scored the game-winning goal at the 19:30 mark as the Lady Indians defeated Texas State 2-1 Sunday and sweep a two-game series with the Bobcats.
UL-Monroe improved to 11-4-2 and 7-3-1 in Southland Conference play while Texas State dropped to 10-8 and 7-3 in the league. The loss ended a long Louisiana road trip for the Bobcats as they also suffered a 2-1 loss at Northwestern State on Friday.
With the loss, Texas State fell out of contention for a Southland Conference regular-season title. Stephen F. Austin improved to 8-1-2 in SLC play with a 3-1 win over Southeastern Louisiana on Sunday.
Sunday, the Lady Indians wasted no time jumping out on top as Kortney Harris scored a goal just four minutes into the game on an assist from Megan Moore.
Texas State would answer six minutes later, tying the match at 1-1 on an unassisted Jaynee Sherman goal.
The Bobcats will close out the regular season at 7:00 p.m. Friday when they play host to Sam Houston State at Bobcat Soccer Complex.
