NATCHITOCHES, La.- Texas State's soccer team lost a 2-1 decision at Northwestern State Friday.
The Lady Demons scored their two goals in the first period. The 'Cats were only able to get back to within one in the second period with a goal from freshman Kayla Thornton.
"It was a tough loss, we played very well, we just didn't finish well," said head coach of the Bobcats Kat Conner.
Northwestern got on the board first, nineteen minutes into the game, with a goal from Marliese Latiolais.
Six minutes before the period ended Ashley Hadley scored goal number two for the Demons. Hadley's goal gave NSU the 2-0 lead, going into the second half.
The `Cats, ranked second in the Southland Conference, were looking to even the score in the second half of play, but were only able to get within one.
Thornton, a freshman midfielder, scored on a cross shot from senior Jaynee Sherman.
"They played really well as a team tonight," Coach Conner said. "I thought it was one of the best games I've seen them play."
The 'Cats out shot the Demons twelve to seven, with five shots on goal.
The Bobcats will be facing another tough conference competitor on Sunday. Texas State will be playing Louisiana-Monroe at 1 p.m. in Monroe, Louisiana.
"If we can play the same against ULM that we did against Northwestern, we will be just fine," Conner predicted.
