The Texas State volleyball team (17-4, 11-2) extended its winning-streak to 12-straight matches Friday night at Strahan Coliseum with a three-game victory (30-21, 30-25, 30-28) over the McNeese State Cowgirls (13-7, 8-5 SLC).
With the win, the Bobcats avenge an early season loss to McNeese State and remain in first place in the Southland Conference ahead of Texas-Arlington.
"This is a good a win for us," said Head Coach Karen Chisum, "we set out to beat them in three and we accomplished that."
Texas State had a strong night on both sides on the net with a team hitting percentage of .326, while holding the Cowgirls to .168 hitting.
"Our players in the middle dominated tonight," Chisum said, "we knew we had an advantage if Krystal [Kolkhorst] could set up the middle and tonight Brandy [St. Francis] and Kacee [Rogers] really took control of the match."
Rogers finished the night with 14 kills on .522 hitting, while St. Francis added 12 kills on a match-high .550 hitting.
Senior outside hitter Stephanie Torregrosa led the Bobcats in kills and recorded a double-double for the second straight match with 15 kills and 10 digs, while senior libero Kristy Jones led all players in the match with 22 digs.
Kolkhorst had a strong all-around night with 5 kills (.417 hitting), 46 set assists, and 11 digs to give her 13 double-doubles this season.
Several newcomers made the most of extended playing time on Friday as freshman outside hitter Kim Hair punched in seven kills on .500 hitting while sophomore middle blocker Karry Griffin recorded six kills, five digs, and four assisted blocks.
"Our goal is to play our subs more during this home stand." Chisum said. "I was really glad Kim [Hair] got to play and she did an outstanding job for us tonight."
The `Cats will look to maintain its lead in the Southland race at home on Saturday afternoon when it plays host to the Lamar Cardinals (7-16, 1-12 SLC) at 2 p.m.
"I know Lamar has struggled a lot this season, but they are a very tough opponent with a lot of talent so we need to come out and play with the same intensity as we did tonight."
