San Marcos, Texas - -

The Texas State volleyball team extended its winning streak to five matches Saturday after defeating Southeastern Louisiana (7-6, 2-3 SLC) in three games (30-27, 30-24, 30-27) at home.

The win improves the Bobcats to 10-4 overall and 4-2 in the Southland Conference.

Texas State got off to a rough start in the first game as they trailed 10-17, before the Bobcats went on a 20-to-10 run to take the game and lead the match 1-0.

"Southeastern is a really good ball club," said Head Coach Karen Chisum. "They came in and played us tough in that first game, and I really think they way we came from behind to win that game really took away all of their momentum."

The `Cats controlled the final two games of the match as the defense once again out-dug its opponent by a large margin (64-to-49).

Texas State also got a big lift from its two setters Krystal Kolkhorst and Jessica Grisham, as the two combined for 48 set assists which contributed to the Bobcats' 281 hitting.

"If our team passes as well as it did today we will be very hard to beat," Chisum said.

Junior outside hitter Lizzy Nwoke led all players in the match with 16 kills on .324 hitting.

She was joined in double figures by senior outside hitter Stephanie Torregrosa and senior middle blocker Kacee Rogers with 13 each. For the second straight match, Torregrosa recorded a double-double as she also added 12 digs on the defensive end.

Freshman Brandy St. Francis also had a strong performance with 9 kills on .538 and four assisted blocks.

Leading the team on defense was senior libero Kristy Jones with a team-high 18 digs, while Kolkhorst also contributed 10 digs.

As a team the Bobcats recorded 59 kills with 20 errors compared to 48 kills and .221 hitting for the Lions.

The Bobcats will hit the road next week for an important Southland Conference showdown with I-35 rival Texas-San Antonio (7-8, 4-2) on Tuesday. The match will start at 7:00 p.m. at the Convocation Center in San Antonio, Texas.

"UTSA has always been a tough opponent and it is a great rivalry," Chisum said. "It seems every year when we face them it goes five games."
