HAMMOND, Louisiana - Texas State soccer seniors and head coach Kat Conner accomplished more than just another notch in the win column in their 4-0 defeat of Southeastern Louisiana Friday.
This was the first time since 1999, the year the Texas State soccer program began, that the Bobcats have defeated SLU in Hammond.
To add to the victory for the seniors and Conner, sophomore goalie, Brittany Beltramini, recorded her second shutout of the season.
"Brittany's performance was one of the key factors that gave us the `W", she took away the few chances they had to score," Connor said.
Both shutouts have come in conference match-ups. The first shutout was when Northwestern State came to San Marcos. This feat now brings Beltramini tied for first in the conference with Stephen F. Austin's goalie.
Texas State's leading scorer Danielle Holloway scored the first two goals of the game in the first period. Holloway's first goal came off an assist from senior, Kendra Comfort.
At 25:42 on the game clock, Holloway put her second goal of the game and her ninth of the season in the net, unassisted.
Twenty-five seconds into the second period, senior forward Jaynee Sherman scored her fifth goal of the season. Jaynee is tied for seventh in the Southland Conference for points in conference games. Including all games played, she is tied for fifth for points scored. Sherman is also ranked tied for first in assists in the conference.
The final goal of the game was scored unassisted by Angela Crissy with less than four minutes to play in the game. Crissy also scored the final game winning goal in Texas State's match-up with Texas-El Paso.
Assistant coach Reta Derouin said, "By using the width of the field we were able to tear down their defense which allowed us to get in behind them and score."
Texas State is heading to Thibodaux, Louisiana to take on Nicholls State on Sunday. This will be the 'Cats fifth conference match-up of the season. Next, the Bobcats will return home to play McNeese State on Friday and conference leader Stephen F. Austin a week from Sunday.
