The Texas State volleyball team extended its winning streak to 11-straight matches on Tuesday night, and swept the regular season series with a 3-1 (30-26, 34-32, 23-30, 30-20) victory over I-35 rival Texas San Antonio.
The win improves the `Cats to 16-4 overall and kept them in first place in the Southland standings with a 10-2 mark.
With the loss the Roadrunners fall a game under .500 with a 10-11 mark and are now 7-5 in the Southland Conference.
Texas State opened the match firing on all cylinders as the team hit .359 with 19 kills compared to .182 hitting by UTSA in game one.
The second game found the Bobcats trailing 17-22, before Texas State charged back with the frontline, lead by Kacee Rogers and Brandy St. Francis, forcing UTSA into committing 12 attacking errors as the `Cats stole the momentum and battled to take a commanding 2-0 lead.
UTSA managed to come out of the break and draw within one with a game three win, but the momentum clearly belonged to the Bobcats who quickly ended the Roadrunners hope of a comeback by taking an 11-point lead late in game four and never looked back.
Leading the way for Texas State was senior middle blocker Kacee Rogers who picked up her second double-double of the season with 16 kills (.400 hitting), 2 service aces, 5 digs, and 10 blocks (one solo, nine assisted).
Senior outside hitter Stephanie Torregrosa also had a strong performance with a mach-leading 19 kills and 11 digs, while senior libero Kristy Jones led all players in the match with 20 digs.
Senior setter Krystal Kolkhorst was just one kill shy of the team's first triple-double as the Houston native finished with 9 kills (.312 hitting), 54 assists, and 13 digs.
Also reaching double figures in kills for the Bobcats was junior outside hitter Lizzy Nwoke who logged 14 kills on .167 hitting.
The Roadrunners had two players reach double figures in kills as Connie Picard recorded 12 and Jennifer Emelogu finished with 11.
As a team Texas State hit .183 with 71 kills while UTSA was contained to .101 hitting and 47 kills.
The `Cats defense was a major factor in the win as the team out-dug UTSA by eight (73-to-65) and out-blocked its opponent by seven (27-to-20).
Texas State will return to action on Friday with a rematch against McNeese State at home at 7:00 p.m.
The Bobcats last loss came at the hands of the Cowgirls in a five-game battle in Lake Charles, LA on Sep. 17.
