SAN MARCOS, Texas - Danielle Holloway scored two goals in Texas State's (10-7-0) 6-1 defeat of Nicholls State (3-11-1), bringing her total for the season to 14. The 'Cats did not allow the Lady Colonels to score until the second half of play. Assistant coach Reta Derouin said, "We are very happy with the win, but there are still some adjustments we can make."
Holloway's 13th goal of the season came 4:52 minutes into the game. She took a pass from Natalie Holder and shot the ball across the net into the back left corner of the goal.
Four minutes later Holder scored a goal of her own unassisted, giving the Bobcats the early 2-0 lead.
Holloway scored her second goal of the game and 14th goal for the season, less than three minutes later. Once again she was assisted by Holder. "Dani and Natalie played for and off each other very well today," noted coach Derouin.
Freshman forward Angela Crissy dribbled the ball past the Nicholls goalkeeper to the open net for goal number four for Texas State. This goal brought Crissy's total for the season to five.
The fifth goal oaf the game was scored at the 38:38 mark on the clock, by midfielder Natalie Ham. Ham did some fancy footwork around a couple of Nicholls defenders and shot the ball from about 15-yards out, finding the back of the net. Ham's goal gave the 'Cats the 5-0 lead going into the second half.
Nicholls State got on the board 12 minutes into the second period, with an unassisted goal from Jessica Schwartz. Making the score 5-1.
Coach Derouin said, "We need to work on mentally staying in the whole game and adjusting to what the other team is doing."
Senior Kendra Kade, who has scored in the Bobcats last three games, scored what would be the last goal of the game. Six and a half minutes after Nicholls State's goal, Kade answered back with an unassisted goal of her own, making the final score 6-1.
Texas State ended the match with a total of 32 shots and 22 shots on goal, Nicholls had six shots and four shots on goal. Goalie Brittany Beltramini recorded three saves.
Texas State will be hitting the road to take on Northwestern State (7-10-0) and Louisiana-Monroe (10-4-2). The Bobcats will be playing NSU in Natchitoches, Louisiana at 4 p.m. on Friday. Then the 'Cats are headed to Monroe, Louisiana for a 1 p.m. game on Sunday.
