The Texas State volleyball team (15-4, 9-2 SLC) stretched its current winning-streak to 10-straight on Saturday night with a four-game (30-21, 24-30, 30-22, 30-23) victory over Sam Houston State (12-7, 6-4).
The `Cats had four players reach double figures in kills led by junior outside hitter Lizzy Nwoke, who followed up her 31-kill performance on Friday with 20 (.326 hitting percentage) against the Bearkats.
Overall Texas State recorded 71 kills in the match on .276 hitting while Sam Houston was limited to 56 kills on .212 hitting.
Senior middle blocker Kacee Rogers added 14 kills on .481 hitting while senior Stephanie Torregrosa had her second double-double in as many nights with 12 kills and 13 digs.
Senior setter Krystal Kolkhorst continued her strong play with 62 assists and six digs.
Freshman middle blocker Brandy St. Francis also had a strong outing with 12 kills on a team-best .524 hitting.
Holding the line for the `Cat defense was senior libero Kristy Jones who led all players in the match with 25 digs. This weekend, Jones collected 56 total digs in two matches for an average of 6.2 digs/game.
Texas State had 85 digs in the match, compared to 76 for Sam Houston State, as freshman Brittany Prewit added 10 digs and junior Amy Ramirez also stepped up with 13.
Leading the way for the Bearkats was Jennifer Henrichsen (19 kills, 13 digs), Alisha Fowler (18 kills, .586 hitting), and Chrissy Engle (11 kills).
With the win, and sole possession of first place, Texas State will return to San Marcos where they will play their next five matches in the friendly confines of Strahan Coliseum.
The `Cats next match will be a battle as I-35 rival Texas-San Antonio heads to town looking to avenge a five-game loss suffered in San Antonio earlier this month.
The match is set for Oct. 19 at 7:00 p.m.
