Texas State Soccer Falls to SLU, 3-1

The Texas State soccer team suffered its first loss in five games after falling to Southeastern Louisiana by a score of 3-1 on Friday night at the Bobcat Soccer Complex.

With the loss the `Cats move to 9-7 overall and 6-2 in the Southland Conference, while the Lions improve to 9-6 and 5-3 in conference.

The Bobcats got off to a strong start when two minutes into the match, Danielle Holloway headed a lob pass from Kendra Kade into the net to give Texas State an early 1-0 lead.

With the goal Holloway now has a team-high 12 goals on the season.

However, ten minutes later the Lions erased the lead as Kim McNally drove past Bobcat goalie Brittany Beltramini to net her 10th goal of the season an draw the game even at 1-1.

Southeastern Louisiana would strike again with five minutes remaining in the first half as Jen Mongiardi scored off a set-up from Kristen Cason to give the Lions a 2-1 lead.

For much of the second half the `Cats dominated the attack with eight shots and six corner kick opportunities, but were unable to capitalize as two solid shots from Kendra Kade just missed over the goal.

The Lions, who had only eight shots total on the night, were finally able to put the game away with four minutes left as Rebecca Glueck sailed the ball into the top right corner of the net to give Southeastern the win, 3-1.

Texas State will look to rebound from the loss on Sunday, when it plays host to Nicholls State. The game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
