Will Boyd joined the Texas State volleyball coach staff as the program's volunteer assistant coach in August 2022.
Boyd, an Alabama native, came to San Marcos after serving as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at St. Edward's University in Austin, Texas. While a member of the Hilltopper coaching staff, Boyd's responsibilities included recruitment of prospective student-athletes, organized and conduct campus visits, analyzed, create and presented scout on opponents. He also emphasized player development with setters and middle blockers. During his time at St. Edward's, the Hilltoppers played for a Lone Star Conference Championship and placed three student-athletes on the all-tournament team.Â
Prior to his stay in Austin, Boyd was an assistant coach at West Texas A&M University in Canyon, Texas, where he assisted with the recruitment of prospective student-athletes and all aspectes of building relations with clubs nationally. He also assisted in breaking down game film to implement into scouting reports, while also specialized in student-athlete training with setters and middle blockers. His time at West Texas A&M was highlighted by the 2019 season that saw the Lady Buffs appear in the NCAA Division II Tournament as well as claiming the 2019 Lone Star Conference Freshman of the Year and AVCA South Central Regional Freshman of the Year, Torrey Miller. Miller went on to win the 2020 Lone Star Conference Offensive Player of the Year the following season.Â
During his time on the 40 Acres, Boyd was on a Texas coaching staff that helped the program to a 23-5 regular season record, including a 15-1 mark in Big 12 play, as well as Big 12 Conference championship. He worked closely with the breakdown of opponents to implement into scouting reports and focused, primarily, in training setters and in the offensive game plan. Â
Before moving to the Lonestar state, Boyd spent the 2016 season as a volunteer assistant coach on the Samford University coaching staff that won the Southland Conference championship and made a NCAA Division I Tournament appearance. The year prior, he served in the same role on the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) staff and was highly involved with drill and practice management.Â
Boyd, who was a 2016 AVCA Coaches for Coaches Scholarship recipient, was a member of the men's volleyball program at Benedictine (Ill.) University during the 2015 season. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Health Promotion with a concentration in Kinesiology degree from the University of Montevallo (Ala.) in December 2014.Â
