Namken Picks up Baseball America Freshman All-American Accolades

SAN MARCOS, Texas -- After establishing himself as one of the premier young catchers in college baseball, Texas State's Clayton Namken has been selected to the Baseball America Freshman All-America Second Team.

Namken's standout freshman season helped propel the Bobcats to a 37-26 record and an appearance in the NCAA Tournament. The New Braunfels, Texas, native quickly became a fixture in the Texas State lineup throughout his first collegiate campaign.

Starting 47 of his 51 appearances, Namken finished the season with a .310 batting average, collecting 54 hits, including 23 for extra bases. His offensive production featured 11 home runs, 10 doubles and two triples, while he added 34 RBIs and 31 runs scored. He reached base at a .403 clip and posted a .580 slugging percentage, ranking among the team's most productive hitters.

Consistency was a hallmark of Namken's season. He recorded 16 multi-hit performances and produced an extra-base hit in 20 different games, regularly delivering key offensive contributions throughout the year.

Defensively, Namken proved equally valuable. He handled 453 chances with just three errors, finishing with a .993 fielding percentage. His 406 putouts and 44 assists helped anchor the Bobcats behind the plate, and he threw out nine runners on attempted steals.

The national recognition from Baseball America is the latest accolade from a decorated freshman campaign for Namken, who also earned a Perfect Game Freshman All-America nod and Sun Belt Conference All-Freshman Team honors following the season.
