FOLEY, Ala. – For the first and last time, the Texas State soccer team is Sun Belt Conference Tournament Champions after beating ULM 1-0 at the Foley Sports Complex on Saturday night. Netting the lone goal of the night was freshman
Sadie Guzman for her first career match-winner.

The victory punched the Bobcats' ticket to the NCAA Tournament for the sixth time in program history and first since 2011.

With the win, TXST is now 10-3-7 overall while the Warhawks campaign ends with a 13-3-4 record and their 15-match unbeaten streak come to an end.

In the match, Texas State limited ULM to just three shots with two in the second half while the Bobcats took 10 shots and put half of them on frame. Guzman led the way with three shots and two shots on goal. Both
Helen Alormenu and
Victoria Meza took two shots apiece.

Freshman
Brooklyn Escobar recorded her sixth shutout of the season without making a save. The lone shot on frame by ULM was stopped by Meza just before the goal line in the first half.

In the 30th minute, Guzman nearly gave Texas State the lead when she was fed a through ball by
Alexis Montgomery. Her shot was blocked by the charging goalkeeper.

Two minutes later,
Victoria Meza and
Matsuri Tsutsui had back-to-back looks that were denied by the keeper and a defender.

Guzman nearly found the back of the net again when she unleashed a shot that clanked off the bottom of the crossbar just under four minutes until halftime.

Making a diagonal run across the ULM backline, Tsutsui fed Guzman a through ball. She had a breakaway against the goalkeeper that saw her take a touch to avoid her. The Cedar Park, Texas native took another touch and sent a low diagonal shot into the back of the net for the 1-0 advantage in the 54th minute.

Early in the 81st minute, The Warhawks had their best opportunity offensively when Skylar Blaise had a look from just outside the six-yard box. Her attempt sailed wide left of the post.

The Bobcats kept on the attack and saw
Mady Soumare and Alormenu put back-to-back shots on target that were stopped.

Next up for Texas State is the NCAA Tournament. The team will find out its destination during the NCAA Selection Show on Monday at 3 p.m. CT.
