Heather Martin (2016-19)
Heather Martin put together and astounding career between the posts in the maroon and gold. She holds the career record for goals against average at 0.73 and save percentage at .858, while ranking second with 279 saves, 34 wins, 22 shutouts and 5,636 minutes played.
The Midlothian, Texas native claims the two lowest season GAA and save percentage marks in program history. In 2018, she had a 0.45 GAA and a .919 save percentage that are both the program records. Her save percentage mark was the second best in the nation and was one save shy of leading the country. She followed with a 0.47 GAA and .893 save percentage her senior year. Martin also set a new TXST record with nine shutouts in 2018 and followed with seven the next season.
In 2018, she helped lead the Bobcats to their first-ever Sun Belt Conference Regular Season Championship. Martin was chosen as the league’s Defensive Player of the Year that season to become the first player in program history to receive the award regardless of conference affiliation.
Martin’s 19 individual awards she received in her playing career made her the most decorated Bobcat in program history. Those honors include being a two-time All-Sun Belt First Team selection and chosen as the conference’s Defensive Player of the Week seven times, the most of any TXST player with the previous best being two. She joined fellow teammate Kaylee Davis as being chosen to the Senior CLASS Award Candidate List for the 2019 season.
With her performance on the pitch and in the classroom, Martin was a two-time College Sports Communicators (then CoSIDA) Academic All-District First Team selection. She would turn those into Academic All-American honors with a first team selection in 2019 and was a second team pick in 2018. Martin became just the second-ever female Bobcat student-athlete to earn multiple Academic All-America honors and the seventh all-time overall at TXST.
Martin was chosen as The Texas State University System Foundation 2019 Regents’ Student Scholar Award recipient. The award is selected by the chancellor based on outstanding academic achievement and scholarship, leadership abilities and contributions to the institution and their community. She is the only student-athlete in the history of the Texas State Athletic Depart to receive the accolade.
