LAFAYETTE, La. – Texas State men's golf closed out the Louisiana Classics in sixth after shooting their highest round of the tournament at the Oakbourne Country Club.
Jack Burke and
Sakke Siltala were the top finishers for the Bobcats.
"It was a solid week of golf for the guys," said men's golf head coach
Shane Howell. "The conditions were very difficult so scores were higher than normal, but we competed well in a very deep and talented field. We will build on the tournament and look forward to the next event in Houston."
The Bobcats finished in sixth place shooting 50-over 902. In the final round Texas State went 20-over 304, this is highest single round total of the season and highest 54-hole total. Texas State was eight strokes out of having a third top-five finish of the season.
No. 15 Texas A&M won the team championship 14-over in a field of 14 teams, eight ranked in the top 100.
Jack Burke found himself at the bottom of the Bobcat lineup to end the first day and then moved up 17 spots on the leaderboard to tie for first among Texas State. Burke went even in today's round after recording two rounds over par yesterday.
Little Rock's Anton Albers finished one-under to win the individual title.
Sakke Siltala tied for 21
st alongside Burke after going seven-over 78 in the third round, his highest round of the tournament. Siltala recorded a double bogey on hole 11 and an eagle on hole 13.
Kasper Nyland fell five spots from the second round and tied for 30
th after going seven-over 78. This tournament saw Nyland's highest 54-hole total and highest par total.
Harrison Hineline and
Marcelo Garza tied for 43
rd, alongside
Tom Roed Karlsen, in their first outing since the fall.
