TULSA, Okla. – Kasper Nyland finished tied for third with a 2-under (140) and Texas State men's golf climbed one spot on the final day of The Clerico as the Bobcats finished fifth as a team at the 36-hole tournament at The Oaks Country Club.
Â
The Bobcats shot 23-over (591) to finish in the top-five of the tournament that was shortened due to inclement weather on Monday. It was their second straight top-five finish this season.
Â
"Not the outcome we wanted this week," said Texas State head coach
Shane Howell. "Proud of the fight and effort from the guys in difficult conditions this week. Rained all day the first day, limiting the tournament to just 36 holes, and along with the very windy conditions, it made scoring tough. The guys learned a lot this week and will get better for it."
Â
Nyland was one of eight players in the 71-player field who shot below par on Tuesday, helping him climb six spots on the individual leaderboard and finish three shots behind the individual winner. The junior had three straight birdies on holes 1-3 as he carded his third round of the year in the 60s.
Â
Texas State will return to action this weekend with the three-day White Sands Bahamas Invitational on Friday through Sunday. The tournament will take place at the Ocean Club Golf Course.
